What's In A Name? Trivia, Terrible Jokes and Kombucha
Why is a pineapple called a pineapple when it is neither a pine nor an apple? Who signed off on the spelling of Wednesday? What was the first alphabet?
If you have ever wondered any of that out loud, What's In A Name? Great Trivia + Terrible Jokes was built for you. It is a live trivia-comedy show where, in the organisers' own framing, curiosity meets chaos: dig into the stories behind names (people, places, brands, words, things you thought you already knew), then ruin the seriousness with jokes that are bad on purpose.
Who ran it
Mohit Mamoria and Nipun Jain, who co-founded Arey Pata Hai, India's biggest brain-games and quizzing channel. APH went from zero to more than a million subscribers in under three years. The pair also wrote What the What, a national bestseller of trivia and puzzles, and built hardword.co, a word game that started life as a Valentine's gift and turned into something a lot of people now play daily.
Their stated mission is to make curiosity cool again, which is a better use of a life than most.
We were the drink partner: Kombucha, Ginger ale and Soduhs all evening!
It is a good fit, and not only because we like a quiz. A fast, interactive show where you are meant to think! Everyone stayed sharp. Everyone remembered the answers. Nobody had to be walked to a cab.
